Mr. Panos Makrides is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, appointed as the Clinical Service Lead for Trauma and Orthopaedics at University Birmingham NHS Trust. His special interests lie in hip pain in all age groups, managing it both surgically and non-surgically while aiming to preserve the natural joint wherever possible. He specializes in hip surgery, hip revision surgery, knee surgery, sports injury, sports medicine, and osteoarthritis, utilizing a new approach when performing minimally invasive hip surgery (direct superior approach), in conjunction with a small scar. In clinical practice, he has performed more than 200 primary hip replacements using such an approach in addition to complex revisions of old hip replacements due to infection, failure, and fractures. Mr. Makrides graduated with merit from Warwick Medical School in 2004, completing orthopedic training in the West Midlands on the Warwick Orthopaedic Training Programme. He undertook further advanced training at Oxford, becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in trauma and orthopedics in February 2013 and obtaining GMC certification of completion of training (CCT) in September 2014.
